Gallagher has plans to open up several more in San Antonio before expanding to Austin and Houston. It's an idea that could rub some constituents in Councilman John Clamp's district the wrong way.

"It may not be the type of business that we want on this corridor, but there's nothing legally that the city can do to shut them down," said Clamp, who first learned of the business' opening after getting several calls from media outlets. "This is all about who visits these places and if the neighborhoods support them, they're going to stay.

If they don't support them, they're not going to stay."Tuesday was the shop's first full day of operating, and they said they've received plenty of positive feedback and have gotten plenty of business from women.

"They love the idea," said Walsh. "I thought that maybe they'd avoid it a little bit but they absolutely love it."

It seems to be in a prime location, at the corner of a very busy intersection, but replaces another coffee shop that folded. Gallagher is confident the idea will win over customers and critics.

"We're going to squash those immediately because we're going to send out a great message, and we're going to have a lot of fun doing it," said Gallagher. "You don't have to be a coffee connoisseur. You can just come in, talk to a barista. They give you a smile and a great beverage."

Clamp said he spoke with the city attorney Tuesday afternoon and was told as long as the business doesn't break any laws, the city cannot keep it from operating. But he expects to receive a few phone calls from concerned residents."

Just watch it, monitor it and let us know if there's any unusual activity going on," said Clamp.
